Cyclone-rated aluminium windows and doors for Queensland

Queensland is the cyclone heart of the eastern seaboard: AS 1170.2 wind zones that climb to N3 and N4 up north, and the impact-glazing rule that comes with it. We build to the wind zone of the site and carry the AS 2208 impact glass where the cyclone region requires it.

The challenge here

Cyclonic wind (AS 1170.2, N1–N4, higher in the north), an impact-glazing requirement, and humidity with salt air on the coast.

How we spec it

  • Wind-rated to the AS 1170.2 zone at the site (N1–N4)
  • AS 2208 impact glass in the cyclonic regions (north Queensland, exposed coast)
  • Tilt-turn and casement with integrated insect screens for the humidity
  • Salt-fog hardware standard on coastal sites

Certification path

Coordinated with NATA-accredited laboratories: AS 1170.2 wind-zone testing per project and AS 2208 impact certification, with the test report and certificate in the document pack that ships with the first container.

Specifying for Queensland

How is the wind zone determined?

From the AS 1170.2 regional wind-speed map for the site, adjusted for terrain and shielding. We build the frame and glazing to that zone, not to a catalogue default.

Where do I need AS 2208 impact glass?

In the cyclonic regions, north Queensland and the exposed coast, where the building code requires cyclonic impact glazing. Inland you typically only need the wind-rated frame.

Do the windows suit the humidity?

Yes. Gasketed multi-point sashes with integrated insect screens and salt-fog hardware handle the wet, salt-laden Queensland air.
